Community Engagement

“Shaping Oshawa Together”

Oshawa constituents can complain, but few take the initiative to actually do something. The latter is called “voter apathy“, and this lack of interest or care creates a culture of poverty that projects “The Dirty Shwa” many residents experience.

Everybody is important, everybody’s vote matters, and our vote is our voice. Participation is key to democracy, and “Shaping Oshawa Together.”

Being  informed of and engaged with all aspects of the City, like governance, decision-making, and service delivery – will keep an accountable & transparent City hall, and give taxpayers value for money.

“Nobody spends somebody else’s money as carefully as he spends his own. Nobody uses somebody else’s resources as carefully as he uses his own.” Milton Friedman

Government has a responsibility to tell the constituents want they’re doing with your money, and policies that are shaping society. Council represents the will of the constituents, so being informed of and engage with is crucial in the direction society.

The constituents, the residents, the people who live, work, and spent time in Oshawa have to care, because culture counts – as it impacts the character and image of Oshawa.

As a result, Oshawa’s Strategic Plan identifies the importance of public involvement in decision-making and seeking feedback about City services and programs.

With the increasing involvement in online social networking, residents have expectations to interact with government and participate in decision-making is becoming easier. The City of Oshawa has launched a community engagement website, Connect Oshawa- An online tool allowing residents and stakeholders to provide feedback at their convenience on City programs, policies and initiatives.
